Caring for the skin s? Che
While dry skin has its advantages, it can be a challenge to care for. People whose skin is dry don't usually have to worry about pimples or blemishes but drier skin can sometimes have a dull look and can also make wrinkles show up more.
Your age as well as the environment can contribute to dry skin. Your skin is naturally moistened by oils that come from the sebaceous glands within the layers of your skin. Over time, these glands produce less oils. In addition to that, the collagen and elastin which helps keep your skin supple starts to break down and this makes it more difficult for your skin to retain moisture.
Environmental causes include dry climates or climates that are arid or windy as well as using harsh soaps on the skin. Genetics as well as too much over exposure to the sun can all play a role as well.
If you have dry skin, you want to care for it by helping it retain as much moisture as possible. You can do this externally as well as internally. Try not to use products that contain alcohol because this can have a drying effect on your skin. Good products to use for skin that is dry include products that include glycerin, lanolin, Alpha Hydroxy and lactic acid.
While it might seem like cleaning your dry skin will make it even drier you do need to clean it both in the morning and at night time. However, you want to be sure to use a gentle cleanser, particularly one that is made for skin that is dry. Always use warm water but never really hot water as this can irritate and dry out the skin. Use a cool rinse at the end of your skin regime. Using hot water or soaking in a Jacuzzi or hot tub will actually strip your skin of its natural oils so you want to avoid doing that if at all possible.
When you wash your skin, you want to just gently pat it dry with a very soft towel and immediately apply light moisturizer. If you can use a moisturizer that has Vitamin E that would be great. For makeup you want to stick to foundations that have moisturizers in them, or, better yet, don't wear any foundation at all. Foundation in dry skin can sometimes look worse than no foundation as it can magnify the fine lines and wrinkles.
You can help hydrate your dry skin from the inside out by drinking lots of water as well as eating foods that have a high water content such as watermelon and cucumbers. In fact, eating a large amount of fruits and vegetables will help hydrate your skin as well as provide powerful antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that can all help your skin look more radiant as well as help soften the aging process.
